Nobody calls a plumber on a good day

Plumbing Review Response Examples

By Chris Terry, founder · Updated August 11, 2026

A pipe doesn't wait for a convenient afternoon. It goes at 6am on a Sunday, or the night before a closing, or right when the in-laws are pulling into the driveway. Nobody schedules a burst water heater around a good week. By the time your customer sits down to leave a review, they've already had one of the worst mornings of their month, and the plumber showing up was either the thing that saved it or the thing that made it worse.

That context doesn't excuse a bad response, but it explains why plumbing reviews read differently than most other trades. A dentist gets reviewed on comfort and chairside manner. A plumber gets reviewed on how fast someone showed up while water was still moving, and on how much the bill hurt after the panic wore off. The response has to meet the customer where they actually were that morning, not where a calm, well-adjusted five-star review usually comes from. The review response generator can draft this kind of reply on the fly, but the logic underneath it is what matters. Here are six real situations and what to say back.

Charged Me Double Because It Was Sunday

REVIEW: "Called on a Sunday morning because our basement was flooding. They came out fast, I'll give them that, but then charged me DOUBLE the rate because it was a weekend. Nobody told me that upfront. Felt like they took advantage of an emergency."Weekend and after-hours work runs at a higher rate than a weekday call, and that should have been said out loud before the truck left the yard, not explained after the invoice landed. That part's on us. Call the office and ask for a walkthrough of the pricing, we'll go line by line. Glad the water stopped when it counted.

Left the Bathroom Cleaner Than He Found It

REVIEW: "Not going to lie, I expected to spend the rest of the day cleaning up after the repair. He fixed the leak under the sink, wiped down the cabinet, even mopped a spot on the floor I hadn't asked about. Small thing, but it mattered."That's just how a job gets left here, cabinet and all. Nobody wants to come home to a repair site on top of a repair bill. Thanks for noticing the mop, most people don't even think to mention it. We'll pass this along to the tech who did the work, he'll like hearing it.

Quoted One Price, Charged Another

REVIEW: "Quoted $220 for the job. Final bill was $540. Nobody likes surprises on an invoice, and I would've liked a heads up before he kept going instead of after."The original quote covered replacing the fitting under the sink. Once that line was open, the old galvanized pipe running up into the wall had crumbled further than expected, and leaving it would have meant a new leak in a month. That part of the bill is real work, not padding. Where we fell short was calling you from the house before finishing instead of explaining it on the invoice. We're fixing how that gets handled going forward.

See how the whole review process works, start to finish.

The Glowing Review That Gets the Diagnosis Wrong

REVIEW: "5 stars! They figured out our water heater was going out because of the pressure valve and had it running again same day, no more cold showers for the family!"Cold showers are a rough way to start the day, glad that got sorted before it became a habit. Diagnosing what's actually wrong with a water heater is most of the job. The fix itself is usually the fast part once you know what you're looking at. Appreciate you taking the time to write this up, and appreciate the family patience while we worked it out.

The Landlord's One-Star for a Job at a Tenant's Unit

REVIEW: "1 star. Sent someone to fix a leak at my rental. Tenant said it took forever and I got charged for two visits. I never even met the guy who did the work and I'm not happy about it."You weren't there for any of it, which makes it harder to trust what got billed, and that's a fair thing to be annoyed about even without seeing the work firsthand. Two visits usually means a part had to be ordered rather than the first trip going wrong, but I'd rather walk you through the invoice and the notes than explain it in a review reply. Call the office and ask for me directly.

The Five-Star That Just Says "Good"

REVIEW: "Good"Five stars and one word, we'll take it. Sometimes the whole story is that the job went fine: pipe fixed, nobody's basement flooded, done by lunch. Thanks for taking the ten seconds to write something instead of the zero seconds most people spend. We're here if it happens again, and with old pipes in this town, it usually does.

Six situations, six different tones, and none of them got a copy-pasted "thank you for your feedback." That's the whole job. A homeowner having a bad morning can tell the difference between a response written by a person and one written by whoever was closest to the keyboard when the notification came in. The bad ones read like a form letter apologizing for existing. The good ones sound like a person who actually read what happened and answered it.

More worked examples: Negative review responses, 1-star responses, 5-star responses, Contractor responses, Dental responses, Roofing responses, HVAC responses, Med spa responses.

Most plumbing companies don't have someone whose job is writing these at 11pm after a Sunday emergency call. WellEarnedReviews writes the response, on every platform, the same day the review posts, whether it's a five-star that says "good" or a landlord who never met the guy who fixed the leak.
